Residence Life at SMCC

Living in a residence hall is a unique experience and one that provides many opportunities. Many friends are made and life-long relationships are forged while attending SMCC.

Nearly 6,200 students attend Southern Maine Community College each semester, and approximately 407 are residence hall students. On SMCC's South Portland Campus, there are two residence halls: Surfsite and the New Residence Hall.

Residence Life Mission Statement

The Housing and Residence Life staff strives to create a safe and healthy environment that provides residents with a total living, learning and growing experience that sets the tone for the rest of their lives by empowering them to succeed in their future endeavors. Residents must be able to study, sleep, grow and develop as individuals within the bounds of College policies and all applicable laws and without infringing on the rights of others.
