Studying abroad is said to broaden minds to a global view and to appreciate diversity. This is the goal behind the plans of Indian Business School S P Jain Center of Management to invests into an overseas campus for its students in Australia.
Indian MBA students will rotate between their home campus in Mumbai, S P Jain's first overseas campuses in Dubai and Singapore and a new location in Sydney. The Australian campus will be located in Sydney's west and take its first students in 2012. The campus will cost 45 million Australian Dollars, an equivalent of 32 million Euro. The investment will create 50 full-time jobs and 100 part-time jobs over the next five years. The Indian move to invest in its students' education in Australia is highly supported by the state government of New South Wales. A series of attacks on Indian students in Melbourne in 2009 had deeply troubled the friendly relationship between the two countries and might have been a reason for the Indians to choose Sydney over Melbourne as a destination.
Australia is working hard to present itself as an international education hub. Earlier this year the NSW Government established the "Premier's Council on International Education" - the first of its kind in Australia to assist international students who want to study in New South Wales. Education is already the third largest export earner for Australia.
